O ur Hadoop Survey reveals that almost a third of participants use commercial products or Hadoop distributions to implement Hadoop projects. Over a quarter (27 percent) build their own Hadoop ecosystems with Apache components. That number is surprisingly high because it takes in-depth knowledge to harmonize and manage the components as part of the implementation, maintenance and operations.

Over 40 percent of survey respondents stated that they do not know or cannot clearly identify the components for the implemented application scenarios. One can assume that the technical implementation is not always clear-cut, for example, due to the many different products in a Hadoop ecosystem.
