Cost effectiveness, functional performance and operational improvements are the main attractions of Apache Hadoop components

Participants cited cost effectiveness/savings, but also functional performance/innovative capacity and operations improvement as the main reasons for choosing the open source components from Apache in our Hadoop survey. In fact, these same reasons were cited more frequently in favor of Apache components than for commercial tools across all tool categories.

The reasons for using commercial tools vary by tool category. Functional performance/innovative capacity and operations improvement are popular reasons for choosing commercial products, as is ease of use in the areas of streaming and advanced analytics.
