Report One

Report One is a French BI software company with approximately 75 employees. Since its foundation in 2001, which was also the year its BI product MyReport was first released, Report One has expanded its presence to four offices spread across France. This is also where most of the vendor’s current customers are based. 220 value-added resellers (VARs) support Report One by distributing MyReport, mainly in France too.

They also do the majority of sales and implementations. In 2020, a majority stake in Report One was acquired by French private equity firm Ciclad.

The vendor serves approximately 5,000 customers and 50,000 users. Report One aims to help them to be more efficient at every step, from the integration of enterprise data all the way through to the consumption of reports, dashboards and analyses.

As Microsoft Excel is a widely-known product that most business users are able to handle, Report One has concentrated its product strategy on supporting this popular spreadsheet environment. MyReport Builder (MyReport’s main reporting client) is integrated into the Excel interface. Users can utilize the familiar Excel environment and benefit from additional menus with predefined functions. The solution’s second client is a web-based environment offering functions for dashboard creation and report scheduling. The product consists of further modules for data integration, data distribution and administration and is characterized by its business-user-orientated and non-programmable environment.

Currently, the vendor sells two versions of the software: MyReport Essential and MyReport Business Evolution. The latter is the modernized version and receives the majority of the product development investment. However, most customers still use MyReport Essential, which is in line with our sample: 61 percent of respondents use MyReport Essential and 39 percent run MyReport Business Evolution.

User & Use Cases

Report One’s two distinct software modules are reflected in the two main use cases reported by users: standard reporting (implemented by 92 percent of respondents) and dashboards (83 percent).

Its main competitor is Microsoft, the vendor of MyReport’s reporting environment foundation. The product’s high competitive win rate shows that Report One is able to convey to potential customers its strengths in terms of functionality and ease of use, which are perfectly incorporated into a solution fit for SMBs. In fact, this enterprise sector is the vendor’s target market. 95 percent of our sample of MyReport users in this year’s survey came from the SMB sector.

The products that typically compete with Report One also have an emphasis on the business orientation customers look for in MyReport. 81 percent use the product for ad hoc query and around half said that business users prepare data using MyReport Builder, which eases the ingestion of flat files into a governed data foundation while using the well-known Microsoft Excel environment. Moreover, an above-average proportion of business users create reports and dashboards with MyReport.
