[The BI & Analytics Survey 21 results, not included in The BI & Analytics Survey 22] Exago BI is a modern web-based BI and analytics solution strongly focused on the provision of interactive embedded analytics features. The solution includes features for dashboard creation, ad hoc query and formatted reporting. It was built for business users as content creators.
Exago was founded in 2006 with the aim of delivering a modern, easy-to-use, fully embeddable BI and analytics solution. The company is headquartered in the United States (Shelton, CT). Exago was founded by two experienced application software people who both had a track record of founding start-ups. The company now employs over 70 people and serves more than 170 customers. Most Exago customers are software companies who integrate the solution into their applications. This is also the reason the vendor does not host the software – it relies on the infrastructures of customers or partners for that purpose. A subscription model is deployed with pricing calculated per application.
Exago is a single-product company. In the past, complex integration needs were often met by running many embedded BI solutions, which could become technically challenging. The same applies to certain more mature BI and analytics vendors whose software has become cumbersome over time. To address this, Exago BI’s founders designed an interactive and business-oriented solution that could be embedded using a number of APIs (e.g., REST, .NET).
User & Use Cases
Exago BI is a modern web-based solution which is heavily used in embedded scenarios, as indicated by its main competitors above. The product supports standard/enterprise reporting (performed by 87 percent of users), ad hoc queries (77 percent), and dashboards/scorecards (74 percent). 19 percent of respondents use Exago for advanced analytics purposes while a further 39 percent plan to do so in the future. This is quite broad coverage for an embedding specialist, underlining the strength of this modern platform. Exago targets companies of all sizes across all industries but in our sample, 48 percent came from small companies (with less than 100 employees). The median number of users is 20, but the mean of 200 users indicates there are also some larger implementations.
