Carriots Analytics (Envision)

Founded in 1985, Altair provides enterprise, engineering software to optimize product lifecycles from concept to operation. This privately-held company is headquartered in Troy, Michigan and has over 2,600 employees worldwide who support over 5,000 customers and tens of thousands of users. Customer industries range from automotive and aerospace manufacturing to life and earth sciences. Currently Altair has 67 offices in 23 countries, and in 2016 brought in $323 million in revenue.

Altair has a well-established heritage with business intelligence (BI) and first began delivering BI solutions in 2007 with a tool called HiQube. In 2013, Altair started development anew and produced a multi-tenant cloud native application called Envision. Now, after a recent acquisition, Altair is rebranding Envision as Carriots Analytics.

Carriots Analytics offers a wide range of modern data sources and connectors. Furthermore Carriots Analytics partners with CData who provides countless connectors. Buyers should expect Carriots Analytics to be implementable by Altair’s extensive partner network, and to appear in pre-packaged solutions for industry.

Included with Carriots Analytics is a rich semantic layer where users can share data sources and reports, apply access controls, rename table and column names, reorder column values, conduct data preparation and more, all with drag-and-drop actions. Users have the flexibility to choose the Carriots Analytics data engine or a personal or external engine.

Carriots Analytics offers an intuitive graphical user interface and has found success with users of all skill levels who can immediately start exploring data and creating charts, visualizations and databases.

User & Use Cases

Altair is a large international organization that creates and markets other types of software besides Carriots Analytics, with significant expertise in product lifecycle management.

The BI product is actually a relatively small part of the company, and most Carriots Analytics customers are already using one or more of Altair’s other products (typically engineering products licensed for a smaller number of users than BI products). For this reason, there is currently a small average number of users and a low penetration rate when compared to other BI software.

Most Carriots Analytics customers are medium sized organizations that use the product evenly for a number of different purposes compared to other products. Most competitors are primarily used for two or three tasks and hardly at all for other tasks.

Notably, many Carriots customers are planning to use forthcoming advanced analytics capabilities, which are a good fit with the existing Altair customer base.
